兔子帽

　　Ｓ是个四十来岁的女人，性格活泼开朗。话多，但并不令人生厌。与那些二十
上下的姑娘小伙们一起学解剖生理，显得有点吃力。快到４月中旬时，她说，如果
我拿不到Ｃ，我就得退掉这门课。我说，只要坚持努力，你能的。

　　因为学生程度参差不齐，不少人要打工，我建议他们把考试卷子拿回去，对照
书本订正。我根据订正的情况再给他们重新评分。至少有一半以上的学生愿意这么
干。尤其是那些有点跟不上的，Ｓ便是其中之一。重阅这些卷子时，我发现她做得
非常认真，字里行间透出耒的是一种执着和决心。我非常感动，想起平时她那付嘻
嘻哈哈的样子，看不出在似乎玩世不恭的背后竟是如此的认真。记得一次实验课下
课时，她说：“我就喜欢上这门课。”边说边从书包里掏出一大迭照片给我看，告
诉我她花了一元钱买了一顶兔子帽（其实就是两只兔子耳朵和一个环），拿回家以
后，给女儿戴，给继小孙子（ｓｔｅｐｓｏｎ’ｓ　ｓｏｎ）戴，给小狗戴，还给
他们照相留念。相片上没有什么讲究的家具和摆设，有的是孩子们和小狗的各种姿
态和笑容。她说：“我这一元钱真是花得值得，一家人整整乐了一晚上。”

　　最近有朋友用ｅｍａｉｌ发给我一篇短文（Ｓｔｏｐ　Ｗａｉｔｉｎｇ，附后
），提到人们总是想等到我有了学位，或等到我娶了老婆，或等到我买了房子，或
等到我孩子上了大学，或等到我付清贷款，或等到我退休……我就会快乐了。其实
不必等什么，就在现在的每一时刻，如果我们愿意的话，我们就能捕捉到那些瞬间
的快乐。看来善于捕捉身边的快乐也是一种人生的技能。

　　期末考试的那天，Ｓ对我说，她已预约好明天就去医院给她的膝盖做手术，要
我把成绩用ｅｍａｉｌ寄给她。说这话时，还是乐呵呵的，好象等待她的不是什么
不能动弹的痛苦，而是又一顶兔子帽。改卷子时我并不期待她的成绩会超过８０分
，哪晓得，居然得了８７！这个买兔子帽的动手术的女人！

We convince ourselves that life will be better after
we get married, have a baby, then another.
Then we are frustrated that the kids aren"t old
enough and we"ll be more content when they are.

After that, we"re frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with.
We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.
We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our
spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer
car, are able to go on a nice vacation, or when we retire.

The truth is, there"s no better time to be happy than right now.
If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges.
It"s best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway.
Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have
and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special,
special enough to spend your time with...and remember that time
waits for no one.

So, stop waiting

--until your car or home is paid off
--until you get a new car or home
--until your kids leave the house
--until you go back to school
--until you lose ten pounds
--until you gain ten pounds
--until you finish school
--until you get a divorce
--until you get married
--until you have kids
--until you retire
--until summer
--until spring
--until winter
--until fall
--until you die

There is no better time than right now to be happy.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

So -- work like you don"t need money,
Love like you"ve never been hurt,
And dance like no one"s watching.
